Art and visual arts
Contemporary art in Slovenia
Slovenian contemporary art is highly innovative, often critical and politically engaged. It is diverse and rich, including many artists expressing themselves through different media, such as painting, sculpture, installation, photography, video and performance. Contemporary Slovenian artists often explore themes, such as identity, space, social relations and global challenges. Artists engage in a global artistic discourse while maintaining a strong local identity. The Museum of Modern Art in Ljubljana and the Centre for Contemporary Art (MSUM) are key institutions supporting and presenting contemporary artists and creating a platform for dialogue and reflection on art today.
In addition to these two institutions, there are also many centres or venues in Slovenia that enable the presentation of artistic expression at various locations around the country.
